My first taste of business came at 11 years old. I took over my sister’s paper route in Spencerport, NY. Every paper had to be meticulously placed at each customer’s desired location. I handed out invoices and retrieved payment. I learned that exceeding expectations requires trust, attention to detail, and knowing the needs of my clients. I experienced that it leads to loyal customers, mutually thriving relationships, and to my delight, a tip!

My dad was a teacher, and my mom stayed at home. We lived modestly in a home my father built. My parents had a strict monthly budget with envelopes of cash in the kitchen drawer. School shopping meant going to Kmart to buy 4 white stripe McGregors (Adidas knockoffs). I would often use a black sharpie to make them 3 stripes. I realized that delivering papers was my ticket to afford the real Adidas Samba Classics! My first pair made me feel like a million bucks…mostly because I’d made a goal for myself, mapped out a plan and brought it to fruition.

Today with Know My Plan, I use these same “street smarts” to help determine the most appropriate financial strategy for your family. Life is full of transitions…getting married, having a baby, buying a home, new job, and eventually…retirement! There comes a time when navigating the forever changing financial landscape is too important to do on your own.
