Nic Nielsen, CFP®, CLTC®
Financial Planner
In college, I was a chemical engineering major. I loved math & chemistry classes. However, I quickly realized that I did not enjoy chemistry labs. Boring!
During this period of time, I had the opportunity to speak with my grandfather about investments. He asked if I would look at his investment statements as he didn’t understand what he owned, why he owned it, or where it fit into his overall financial picture.
I really enjoyed looking at the statements and learning about investments.
My grandfather gave me some incredible advice:
If you understand how money works, you will: probably always have a job, be able to take care of your family, but most importantly – be able to help others.
I’m grateful for that opportunity to find my calling, and to my grandfather for pointing me in the right direction. It was the right decision for me – and I love that I get to help other families like mine live better lives.
What I do at Know My Plan
I meet with you to understand what you want your life to look like, where you are today, and what matters most to you. From there, I help map out a clear plan to get you from where you are to where you want to go, on a timeline you choose. This is a date-specific, dollar-specific plan — not guesswork or generic advice. And just as important, I don’t hand the plan off and disappear. I’m the one who reviews it with you over time, helps you adjust as life changes, and makes sure the plan continues to support the life you’re building.
Clarity today. Confidence about what’s next!
What I love about my job
My favorite part of the job starts with listening.
I enjoy hearing people’s stories — how they got to where they are, what they’ve worked through, and what they actually want their lives to look like going forward. Often, people come in with goals they think they should have. One of the most meaningful parts of my work is helping them slow down, ask better questions, and identify what their true goals really are.
From there, the fun part begins.
I love putting the puzzle pieces together — connecting income, savings, taxes, investments, and life decisions into a clear plan. Not everything matters equally, and one of my strengths is identifying the few action items that have the highest probability of paying off over the long term.
When people leave with clarity, confidence, and a plan that actually makes sense to them, that’s the part of the job that never gets old.
I was adopted! And so are my three children.
I love coaching my kids’ basketball and soccer teams.
I’m an avid lover of Disney vacations! Typhoon Lagoon is my favorite.
I enjoy sports, a good Christmas movie, and family game night.
